Hearts, the Coast Guard and Sprouting Zinnias

After reminding Mrs. Mundell of all the important things that we need to remember when cutting with scissors, such as the way to grasp the scissors, how to hold the paper with one hand and to open and close the scissors making a big, "CHOMP, " ..... together, we cut out a great, big white heart!  And our predictions were correct, our heart was perfectly symmetrical. At the easel, the little artists were busy painting these hearts with shades of turquoise, pink and purple.

Then, what did we discover on the rug??? Creatively, several children formed a Brio train track in the shape of a heart.

Several days later a Duplo train was making it's way around the rug forming a heart, too! How impressive!!

Not too far behind came the animal train. The train station has been very busy lately moving those trains on their way.

Others of us were having tons of fun building patterned towers and buildings of colored cubed blocks, as they enjoyed integrating small people and pet figurines.

"Found mine and my seeds sprouted! " The zinnia seeds that we planted last week sprouted BIG TIME, and we couldn't wait to get out to the garden and plant them.

Then off to the Coast Guard and Lt. Commander Cohoon met us at the gate to start our tour.

Though before we got started, we were able to see a rescue helicopter prepare for take-off and then up in the air it went, first hovering nearby, waiting for a plane to land.

Wow, what a feeling to sit in the pilot seat of a C130 cargo plane!

After checking out the pilot's seat and the back of the helicopter, each child was able to experience sitting in the basket used to rescue people that need help in the water.

Back in the classroom, painters were enjoying one of their favorite mediums, tempera cakes, by painting such things as spiders and sunsets.

It takes balance and coordination to climb down the steps of the big climber like this!

Look how these children have mastered the see saw!

Our fantastic mystery reader this week  read one our most  favorite books, "The Bad Case of Stripes." by David Shannon.

The children are bringing in the valentines they made and have begun distributing them to their classmates by matching the name on their cards to to the name on the Valentine bags. (very, very exciting :) Please send your child's valentines in by Wednesday February 13th.
