Feather Painting, Building and The Pet Show

Using feathers as a painting tool, the children were fascinated as they discovered the various prints they could create on their duck shapes. Each child's duck was unique and created a conversation piece. Some  children sang, "Five Little Ducks," as they worked. Then we all enjoyed the book, "The Five Little Ducks," by Nikki Smith and were so glad that all five of mama's little ducks came back!

Some experimented painting with two feathers at a time which was quite fun, making many shades of orange as well as interesting patterns.

While some enjoyed making shades of orange with their hands!

Several little frogs made a family trip to Target with a big shopping list. Books were enjoyed while in route, though I'm not quite sure who was driving!!

Measuring cups and spoons and ice cream scoops were used to transfer rice into cups and bowls.

Playing Color and Shape Bingo in both English and Spanish was a real treat with a special visitor!

Mrs. Mundell and Ms. Wiltshire were amazed with the children's ability to spread their peanut butter and jelly on the bread for snack.

Then of course, the best part was being able to lick their spreading stick when finished!

The children used their pincher fingers to transfer tiny beads into the individual saucers of a rubber soap saver. This activity can be a bit challenging, because the bead has to be placed exactly in the center of the saucer.

Colored pattern blocks of many different shapes were used to create pictures of frogs, tractors and fish by matching each corresponding shape.

"The Hay Grows Tall" about what a farmer does with his hay, was a favorite song that Mrs. McIvor taught the children this week. They enjoyed learning the many hand motions in the song and then singing it faster and faster each time!

Some very hungry farmers enjoyed a yummy pizza after working hard in the fields!
Next the farmers enjoyed fresh fruit and made a delicious cake.

The unit blocks are open in the Exploratorium, and the children have been really involved in some extensive building. Some enjoy building together as a team, while others create individual structures. It is very interesting to hear the children's descriptions of their work.

The double bike has been a hit on the playground. The boys and girls can't decide whether it's more fun to be the driver or the passenger!

On Friday Alpha students attended The JK Pet Show. They were a great audience and listened intently as each JK child was introduced with their pet. Hearing the special qualities of each pet was a real treat!
